Back up and restore
Backup
Back up apps & contacts
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Accounts & sync.
- Tap Sync All.
Back up media & pictures
- Connect the included USB cord to the phone, then to your computer.
- On your phone, a Choose a connection type message appears.
- Tap Disk drive.
- Tap Done. Some applications in use may be stopped or may not be available until you disconnect USB storage.
- On a Windows computer, a Removable Disk window appears. Double-click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.
- On a Mac OS X computer, double-click the virtual drive icon that appears on the desktop.
- On the computer, double-click the desired folder to access the memory card files:
- .android_secure
- folder: downloaded apps
- Download folder: downloaded ringtones
- DCIM folder: photos and videos
- media folder: installed ringtones and notification tones
- My Documents folder: audio recordings
- Music folder: albums and song files
- Other files that may not be in any folder: audio recordings (filenames ending in .3gpp), audio greetings (filenames ending in .amr), and files from Polaris Office – Word documents (filenames ending in .doc) and Excel spreadsheets (filenames ending in .xls)
- Drag and drop the files onto your computer desktop or into another folder.
- On a Windows computer, when you are finished, click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray in the lower right-hand corner of your computer desktop.
- Click Safely Remove USB Mass storage Device.
- On a Mac OS X computer, when you are finished, drag and drop the virtual drive icon into the Trash/Eject.
- Disconnect the USB cord from your computer and then from your phone.
Restore

Reset your device
A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It doesn't delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.
Master reset with settings menu
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Automatic restore to clear (turn off) the checkbox.
- Tap Back up my settings to clear (turn off) the checkbox.
- Tap OK.
- Tap the Back key.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Read the message about erasing data.
- Scroll down and verify the Erase SD card check box is not selected.
- Tap Reset phone. If screen lock is enabled, enter screen unlock information to proceed.
- Tap Erase everything.
Master reset with hardware keys
If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys.
- If the phone is plugged into the charger or USB cable, unplug it.
- Remove the battery. Removing the battery is required. Turning off the phone with the Power key does not always work, because of the Fast Boot feature.
- Re-insert the battery.
- Press and hold the Volume Down key and then briefly press the Power key.
- Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen. The following options display: (If you are stuck on a screen that says 'HBOOT' and 'FASTBOOT' without any other options to choose from, it means you have pressed the Back button. To get to the regular options, press either the Power key on HBOOT or the Back button.)

- SIMLOCK
- IMAGE CRC
- Press the Volume Down key twice to select FACTORY RESET.
- Press the Power key to initiate the master reset.
- Wait as the device displays the bootup screen, then shows a picture of arrows above a device with a progress bar. It then restarts. To skip the introduction video so you can continue troubleshooting or using the phone, press the Back button.
Memory and SIM cards
SIM card
- Press the battery cover release on the bottom of your phone and then lift the back cover up and toward the top of the phone to remove it.
- Remove the battery by lifting it out of the compartment.
- Insert/remove the SIM card. Align the golden contacts on the battery with the golden contacts in the battery compartment.
- Press the battery into place.
- Set the top of the phone into the top of the back cover and then gently press the cover closed.
Memory card
- Press the battery cover release on the bottom of your phone and then lift the back cover up and toward the top of the phone to remove it.
- Gently press the memory card into the slot, as shown, until it clicks.
Network settings
Change band
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Mobile network.
- Tap Network Mode.
- Tap WCDMA only to use a 3G connection only.
- Tap GSM only to use a 2G connection only.
- Tap GSM / WCDMA auto to use a 4G connection when available.
Manual network selection
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to and tap Mobile network.
- Tap Network operators.
- Tap Search networks.
- Scroll to and tap the desired network.
4g T-mobile Phone
Turn on/off data roaming
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to and tap Mobile network.
- Tap Data roaming to select and connect, or clear and disconnect data services.
Turn on/off Wi-Fi
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- If necessary, tap the Wi-Fi Off / On toggle to turn on and view Wi-Fi networks.
- Scroll to and tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
- If security is enabled, enter the Wireless password.
- Tap Connect.
